Make sure you don’t ruin your trip to Oz, with these silly mistakes!
Trying To Do Too Much
They say ‘we can do anything, but not everything’ and they are right. Don’t limit the activities you do. If you are feeling adventurous and want to bungee, go for it. Just be realistic about how long these events take and how much energy they use up. It’s no good planning a three-day hike, after a five-day sail, if you’re going to be exhausted and cranky. Book a few days to relax at the beach in between activities, so you can recharge your batteries and attack your next adventure with gusto.
Something I’ve learned from experience is that packing the wrong stuff can ruin your trip. You need to think about the weather. Just because you think Australia is going to be sunny doesn’t mean it always is. Check the weather forecast and the predicted temperatures for the time you’ll be away, and pack accordingly. If you are unsure as to what sort of clothes to pack then go for the layered look. Then you can peel off layers as it gets hotter, and you still going to be appropriately dressed. Also, you need to think about packing light. Taking too much with you just means you’ll be weighed down with your baggage. 3 to 4 outfits and three pairs of shoes is enough for a week!
Only Going to the East Coast
Another major mistake that travellers make when visiting OZ is that they stay only on the East Coast. While the East Coast is home to Sydney and Brisbane, there are a lot of other amazing places to take advantage of in Australia.
Perth is located on the West Coast of Australia and is a vibrant city with plenty of activities to partake in. Try riding the city trams, visiting wave rock or a trip to the Botanical Gardens. The food not bad either and the are well known for their alfresco dining experiences.
Broome is located in the Northwest of Australia is another location that you don’t want to miss. On the coast and at one time a pearling town, Broome is a great base in which to explore the surrounding areas of outstanding natural beauty. If gorgeous scenery is your thing, then you have to check out the Kimberley Wilderness. If you don’t fancy heading out there alone, why not book a place on one of the Kimberley tours from Broome. You’ll get the benefit of a knowledgeable guide; that will be able to tell you about the history of the area and highlight all the best photo spots.
Too Much Research
With the Internet, we are blessed to have so much information at our fingertips however this can also be a curse. Researching your destination too much before you get there, can mean that you don’t leave any opportunities of discovery open. This can ruin the adventure. The same goes for having your trip planned out to the last second. Having a rigid schedule can cause lots of stress and stop you appreciating what you are doing at the time. Having a rough guide to the things you’d like to do is a very good idea, but let’s leave the laminated schedules at home!
