Here’s an important lesson in life: no matter how tough you think your life is there’s always someone who has to face challenges that are even tougher than yours.

It’s not only things that we take for granted like access to food, potable water or having a place to rest at night, but also the possibility of taking part in some inspirational projects or getting a proper education.

Giving back is among the most important and valuable things companies can do, I believe.

We often see companies that do something for free in exchange for ad space or offer cheaper products. That is not giving back – let’s be real – that is business!

“Money is not the only commodity that is fun to give. We can give time, we can give our expertise, we can give our love or simply give a smile. What does that cost? The point is, none of us can ever run out of something worthwhile to give.”

Steve Goodier

Some companies just get it

Recently I stumbled upon Melvin Brewery. A brewery from America who have their hearts, chequebooks, and intentions in the right places and have developed a philanthropic program with a very positive impact on young peoples lives.

Their benevolence goes beyond plying us with malts and hops.  Some breweries give away beer for events and good causes. Other breweries make beer specifically to help raise awareness or benefit a particular organization.

They have been supporting nonprofits in Wyoming with fund-raising events, financial support and of course real-life human volunteers.

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.”

The Melvon Brewery

Like any remarkable company, the Melvin Brewery was born surrounded by love and a small space. Unlike Apple, they didn’t begin in a garage, but in the back of a Thai restaurant in 2009.

From a small 20-gallon brew system they quickly grew into a 3 barrel system and served award-winning beers with sides of Asian street food, kung fu movies and old school hip hop.

They want their costumers to live their lives passionately, push creative boundaries, make strong impressions and above all strengthen communities.

Many of the events, groups, and charities that they sponsor in their communities foster health and our relationship with the outdoors and aim to empower young people to pursue their dreams.

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

Melvin Brewery Scholarship

The Melvin Brewery $1000 scholarship was created to help students lift a little bit of financial stress off of their shoulders while also helping to strengthen our communities since the youth of today are our future.

This scholarship aims to increase the chance of young people to make a strong impression in their career choices and college or university time to determine their career path.

I’m Sofia, a Portuguese native, who, quit my job, packed 20 kg of my life into a backpack and moved to Australia. I have been fuelled by my new life to experience more adventure rather than settle, pursing even more my desire to travel, explore and being outdoors.

This blog aims to inspire, intrigue and encourage readers around the world to travel further, longer and wider and also to share my passion for an outdoor lifestyle.
