aaahhhh Straddie!! Such a good island.. I just went there once for a birthday party and I knew that mum would like it!!
Was a bit of a mission to get there.. my navigation skills are not the best… but was worthwhile.
With just a short time on the island we decided to not take the car over.. we got the ferry and than a bus already on the island.. and well it’s an island.. there was a miss with dozen of shopping bags (all her shopping for the month!!) to put inside the bus.. WHAT A MISSION!! the driver got out of the bus and the passengers (us included) were making kind of a work line to put all the bags inside the bus…. ahh the same bus broke down when we were returning!!!
Straddie’s impressive headland walk called the North Gorge walk is located at the north western end of Point Lookout and is the best vantage point on the island to watch the whales pass right before your and our eyes.. we saw a couple of whales along the trail.
We climbed around 500 steps running (we were getting late for the bus) so mum could touch the water in this particular beach!! crazy crazy.. but we did it without missing the bus!!! exhausted tough!!!
The walk emcompasses the best of both worlds, with its raw and jagged headland to one side, and natural bushland on the other. Known for its best viewing experience of migrating humpback whales, the Gorge Walk also has a unique rock formation called the ‘Blow Hole’, similar to that of a humpback whale. The sound is unbelievable, we really believed that was a whale..
Another good day in paradise!!
