Newcastle Beach YHA | Review

My visit to Newcastle was unfortunately a quick one. But shortly after arriving, I realised it’s a city that I would quickly fall in love with.
I stayed at the Newcastle Beach YHA because of its convenient location, right in the centre of town and opposite Newcastle beach. You can literally walk everywhere, but this YHA has a lot of buzz and stuff going on.

They brings everything to the table that you could ask for on your visit to Australia’s 2nd oldest city – a central location, clean multi-share rooms,  WiFi throughout, a well equipped kichen (with free coffee and tea) BBQ, a pool table and ping pong in the common area.
It also has plenty of activities such as, trivia, bingo, free surfboards, bodyboards and DVD’s for everyone. They also organise pizza night on Mondays, free pub dinner Tuesday nights and free BBQ Thursday nights. This is a backpackers dream!
The kitchen is open all the time and the laundry is open until 9pm. All the rooms have lockers and there’s also a safe in the reception.
The staff in this YHA were very friendly and all chirpy – they can help you with discounts for tours and attractions or simply to point out some of the best places in town to eat and go.

If you want to meet other backpackers, I’d say it’s pretty easy as there are lots of people in the common rooms playing pool, chatting over the BBQ, Skyping on their computers or having something to eat.

The Bottom Line …

You can’t beat the location – you’re in a great neighborhood with excellent bars, cafes, galleries and restaurants nearby. And the beach!

The rooms and toilets are not flash, but they are clean and well maintained. The common areas are spacious and gorgeous with old leather armchairs to ease sore legs after walking around the city.
With only a short walk to Newcastle’s main sites including the Fort Scratchley, the lighthouse, Newcastle beach and the Ocean Baths are only a minutes walk away, it’s the ideal spot to base yourself on a visit to the city.
