No internet, no phone reception, no radio… The Carnarvon National Park. The national park… This is it!! I can’t believe I’m here!!! There’s no doubt this is the best Australian national park that I’ve been so far…. Carnarvon covers about 298 000 hectares and the wildlife abounds here… more than 173 species of birds, a variety of turtles, geckos, dragons, goannas, reptiles, foxes, platypus and so on… (the list is just huge…)
we got so excited about the wilderness of this park that we ended up doing a 22 km walk on the first day!
The walking tracks weave back and forth across the crystal clear water of Carnarvon Creek as it meanders up the gorge.. somehow we managed to keep our feet dry while crossing te creek more than 30 times… When you look up you realise that you are sorrounded by towering white sandstone cliffs with a vibrant coulour of reds, oranges and cream, carved by the creek during heavy rainfall.
