LET’S BE HONEST: Christmas was way better when you were a kid. You could eat all the food, play all day, you hadn’t yet learned to resent your family, and the thousands of gifts waiting for you. Oh…and SANTA.
Then you grow up and you need to help with the cooking, organise the house, wrap all the gifts and cross your fingers that your family get you a present that you really like and not just for the sake of it.

But, hey!! No matter what home is still the best place in the world to spend your christmas! Having family together makes all the difference. You know that your parents will share awkward stories about your childhood, the food will be delicious and family traditions will be followed – always. Families have all sorts of traditions for christmas day. No matter what the weather looks like in christmas day, all my family goes for long walks in the mountain (Serra da Estrela) and usually they ended up become little adventures that stay in our memories.

Having all the family together on these “missions” have been part of christmas since my childhood, and remembering them on christmas dinner makes my heart warm and happy. There’s nothing like spending this time of the year around those who you really love and care for you.
